An Embassy of Imagination (EOI) project created by Kinngait, Nunavut youth artists: Cie Taqiasuk, Saaki Nuna, Taqialu Pudlat, David Pudlat, Janine Manning, Kunu Pudlat, Kevin Allooloo and Salomonie Ashoona, EOI 2019 participants, Ooloosie Ashevak, and PA System (Alexa Hatanaka and Patrick Thompson).
The puppet, Miali, was created as part of EOI's procession performance Sinaaqpagiaqtuut/The Long-Cut commissioned by the Toronto Biennial of Art and The Bentway. The photograph is by PA System. PA System works in textile, printmaking, painting, video and public art. They also co-create community-engaged projects with local collaborators, including their project with youth in Kinngait, called Embassy of Imagination, circa 2014. PA System has partnered with the District Education Authority of Kinngait on an art program as well as a land program, for which the equipment is funded through the proceeds of their youth-engaged Future Snowmachines in Kinngait in Kinngait project. Their work has been exhibited in institutions such as the Royal Ontario Museum, The Art Gallery of Ontario (both Toronto) Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona University of New Mexico Art Gallery Canada House (London, UK) the Toronto Biennial of Art the Guanlan International Printmaking Base (Shenzhen) and forthcoming at The British Museum (London, UK).
The artist sales percentage for this work will go back into programming in Kinngait.
