After Whistler's painting, "Arrangement in Black: La Dame au brodequin jaune – Portrait of Lady Archibald Campbell" was probably started in 1882 and, although first exhibited in 1884, may have been completed in the following year. The original painting from which this print was published is held in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Accession Number: W1895-1-11.
This lot was printed after 1893 when the business was renamed the Swan Electic Engraving.
