ORCHARD is an ongoing work of public art by Diane Borsato where historic and unusual apple trees are planted together as a site for gathering, learning and sharing food in perpetuity. From the exclusive edition of large-scale prints illustrated and designed by JP King, this iteration of ORCHARD was planted at the Small Arms Inspection Building in 2019 as part of the Toronto Biennial of Art.
Borsato is an award-winning Toronto-based artist who works closely with other artists, dancers and amateur naturalists. She has performed and exhibited in Canada and internationally at venues including the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Power Plant (both Toronto) Walter Phillips Gallery (Banff) the Vancouver Art Gallery the National Art Centre (Ottawa) and Fogo Island Arts (Joe Batt's Arm).
King is an artist, designer and educator with a research-based multimedia practice focused on collaboration. Nominated for a Governor General’s Innovation Award in 2016, King’s research has received support from SSHRC, the Banff Centre, Ontario Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council. His award-winning personal print projects have been exhibited in various artist-run centres across Canada, and most notably at the MoMA (New York).
