According to Libby Horner, this work previously entitled “The Three Half Moons and the Barbary Pirate” on the nameplate to the frame, formed the frontispiece to W.H. Long’s ‘Naval Yarns’, 1899. The scene depicts 'The Dolphin' heading for London with her cargo, and a skirmish with 5 Turkish men-of-war in January 1617
