IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR OUR INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS
Restrictions exist regarding the import and export of species protected under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). This includes but is not limited to items made of or containing bone (whalebone etc.), ivory, tortoise shell, seal skin, rhinoceros horn and any other animal part and is strictly controlled or forbidden by most countries. Please review your country’s laws before bidding on pieces made of or containing these restricted items. It is the sole responsibility of the buyer to inquire about and obtain the proper permits for artwork purchased that may contain restricted materials, if such permit can be obtained. How do I register?
To register click on the "Sign up here" link found on the top left corner of the page.
How long does it take for my registration to be approved?
Registration is approved within 48 hours, not including weekends. Waddington`s will contact you by phone to verify your account.
I didn`t receive an approval registration email. What do I do?
Check your junk mail folder. If you still have not received our email, contact your email service provider and add 22.214.171.124 to the whitelist. If you are still having issues you may want to consider signing up for a Gmail email account.
How can I place a bid?
To place a bid on an item you must first log into your account. Once logged in a bidding box will be displayed on the right side of the lot details page. You can either use the Quick Bid button or the Proxy Bid function.
What is a proxy bid?
This is the highest price a bidder is willing to pay for a lot. Your bidding stops when your proxy bid is reached, or the auction closes.
For example, you enter a bid of $300 as your proxy bid. Your first bid will be the amount of the next bid increment for that lot. Your bid will automatically increase every time someone bids against you by the next bid increment until your proxy bid is reached.
What is the Quick Bid button used for?
The Quick Bid button is a way for you to bid the next bid increment immediately. It is often used in the last minutes of an auction when bidding becomes more aggressive.
How do I know if I am outbid on an item?
If you place a proxy bid our auction system will notify you that you have been outbid via email. You will receive a notification alert that you have been outbid when logged into the website whether you leave a quick bid or proxy bid.
What are the bid increments?
Bids under $250 ($10 increments)
$250 to $499 ($25 increments)
$500 to $999 ($50 increments)
$1,000 to $1,999 ($100 increments)
$2,000 to $4,999 ($250 increments)
$5,000 to $9,999 ($500 increments)
$10,000 to $19,999 ($1,000 increments)
$20,000 to $49,999 ($2,000 increments)
$50,000 to $99,999 ($5,000 increments)
$100,000 to $149,999 ($10,000 increments)
$150,000 to $199,999 ($20,000 increments)
$200,000 to $999,999 ($50,000 increments)

I accidentally bid on the wrong item OR I bid the wrong amount. Can I retract my bid?
Bidding on an item indicates your intent to purchase that item and is considered a legally binding contract between yourself and Waddington`s. Bids cannot be cancelled once they are submitted even if the bid was submitted in error. Upon receiving notification that you are the winning bidder you are obligated to purchase the item.

Why didn`t I receive an email when my proxy bid was outbid?
During the final minutes of an auction many bids are taking place. Due to the high volume not all emails notifications are sent. Some email servers block these emails due to the large number of emails being sent to your account. You can also check your junk mail folder. If you still have not received our email, contact your email service provider and add 126.96.36.199 to the whitelist. If you are still having issues you may want to consider signing up for a Gmail email account. You should also double check your email address under ‘Account’ once you have logged in.
Do I need to refresh the page to see when things change?
The bidding page will update every 3 seconds on its own so you can see new bids placed.
You will need to refresh all other pages to see up to date information.
Are there any additional fees? Is there a buyer`s premium?
Yes, each winning bid is subject to a 20% buyer`s premium as part of the final purchase price. For example, a $1,000 winning bid will be billed at $1,200 ($1,000 hammer plus $200 premium) plus any applicable taxes.
When viewing lots click `Watch This Item` to add the item to your `Watched List``
Add keywords to your wish list. You will be notified if these keywords show up in an online auction lot descriptions.
I have won in the auction today, will you be emailing me an invoice? And may I pay online?
An email will be sent to you the day following the auction closing. Payment instructions are provided along with your invoice. If the day following the auction closing is a holiday you may not receive this email until the following Monday.
Why did the auction continue after 2pm?
If within 5 minutes of the end of the auction, a new bid is placed - which outbids another bidder, the auction time remaining reverts to 5 minutes from the time the new bid was placed. This will continue until such time as no higher bid is placed in the last 5 minutes.
I didn`t receive an outbid notice at the end of the auction. Why?

Some email servers block these emails due to the large number being sent to your account. The other issue maybe the email address you provided us was incorrect. Please access your account and update your email address.
Can I pay online?
Yes, online payments can be made through our secure payment portal accessible here.
Can I pay using a credit card?
Yes, we accept Visa or Mastercard, not exceeding $25,000. Following an auction you will receive an email with a link to our secure online payment portal to complete payment.
Can I come in to the office and pay?
Yes, which allows for easier pick up as well, as payment is due within 2 business days.
I don`t want to pay online, how else can I pay?
Several options are available to you, including the credit card payment mentioned above, Money Order, Bank Draft and Wire Transfer. For those coming to our offices, we also accept Cash and Interac.
Where do I pick up my piece?
Our offices are located at 275 King Street East, Second Floor, in Toronto.
What are your hours of operations?
Hours for pick up are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Can I pick up my piece the day the auction closes?
Items will be ready for pick-up the Monday following the auction at 9am
Our office is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm excluding statutory holidays.
