The Collectors Circle Auction, presented by Baycrest in proud partnership with Waddington’s, is a novel way to experience and acquire art in a virtual setting. This exciting auction includes artwork and collectibles from galleries and from both well-known and emerging artists, all in support of Baycrest’s mission to help vulnerable older adults in our community.

Asian Art

Our final Asian art auction of the year is led by the second installment of export porcelain from the Estate of Johannes Van Wees, Victoria, including ceramics from the Nanking Cargo and the Hoi An Hoard. Other collectible highlights include a selection of Qing snuff bottles, a continuation of white jade carvings from a Toronto family collection, late Qing and modern Chinese paintings, and three suits of samurai armor.

Our final Canadian Art auction of 2020 again demonstrates Waddington’s ability to find the best works from private collections that are fresh to market.

This auction presents the opportunity to bid on an impressive selection of works from the Painters Eleven, including two works by Walter Yarwood that have been in the same collection for decades, as well as a large and striking Alexandra Luke acquired directly from the artist’s family, available at auction for the first time. George Pepper’s Ottawa River Boathouses is a superb example of the artist’s work, and in excellent condition – a rare, high-quality find also making its debut at auction.

Rounding out the auction is a selection of sculpture and other estate gems, including a large canvas by Peter Clapham Sheppard, and two striking winter scenes by Stanley Francis Turner.

The Cabinet of Curiosities including World History and Culture

Spanning a wide range of cultures and historical eras, highlights from this auction include an important letter by Mahatma Gandhi Islamic and Middle Eastern pottery pre-Columbian pottery from Central and South America a good collection of engraved powder horns from the French, Indian and American Revolutionary Wars and early NASA lunar photographs.

The auction also includes an assortment of antique cameras, pistols, swords, knives, daggers, maps and fossils, as well as a variety of other curious objects.

Auction Closing Times

Lots begin closing in groups of 25 lots every 10 minutes on the final day of the auction (typically a Thursday).

For example, lots 1 to 25 may close at 2pm, while lots 26-50 may close at 2:10pm. This continues from lot 1 until the final lots of the auction are closed.

Please be sure to confirm the time that the auctions close, as closing times vary by auction.

What is Overtime?

If a bid is placed within the last 5 minutes of bidding for a lot, the end time will extend 5 minutes from the time the bid is placed. This will continue until there is no bidding for 5 minutes.
